“I aspire to create a sense of timelessness, a kind of foreverness, a style that is enduring..” Ralph Lauren
You like old movies, candlelight dinners, formal gowns, traditional family celebrations – and Ralph, of course. You’re the classic “classic” bride-to-be.
If timeless, enduring and forever describe the perfect marriage, it also describes the classic engagement ring. Since 1477, when Archduke Maximilian of Austria proposed to Mary of Burgundy and presented her with the first recorded diamond engagement ring, generations of brides-to-be have worn diamonds as a symbol of their enduring love. Fashions and styles have come and gone over the centuries, but there is still a propensity for couples to choose a traditional style diamond engagement ring to symbolize the permanence of their relationship. So why settle on simple and classic over flashy and fashionable? There are several answers to this. Getting married is a serious business and many couples feel it deserves a “serious” engagement ring. Another reason is that it will be on your finger for many years to come and it must be able to withstand the changes in fashion and jewelry tastes – and never go out of style. Think about it. You may have an outfit in your closet that you absolutely loved when you bought it years ago. Now… not so much!
The classic round brilliant cut solitaire (FAR LEFT) is still a perennial favorite for engaged couples, as it has been for decades. Some retailers report that it accounts for up to three-quarters of their diamond engagement ring sales. The brilliant cut, with its 58 facets, has been perfected by diamond cutters over the past 100 hundred years or so, to give off the maximum amount of reflected light. The round brilliant reflects around 92% of the light that enters the diamond, so if you are going for the sparkle, this is the one to choose.
The MIDDLE RING is a simple round solitaire with pavé detailing on the basket, set on pave diamond band. To the right, a solitaire with a pavé diamond band and pave details under the basket. But you don’t have to choose a round diamond to stay simple. Classic rings come in different shapes and sizes like the Emerald cut beauty below. Sophisticated and sleek, it’s a timeless choice that you’ll still love years from now.
Perhaps you like the 3-stone look? This unique three-stone round cut is part of our one of a kind collection! We can customize this look for you by selecting larger side diamonds like like the ring on the right.
Our Asscher cut ring above to the left has bullet shaped side stones giving it that elegant, architectural, “squared-off” look.
What are some of the other most popular classic diamond cuts? The Radiant is a rectangular or square cut with brilliant cut facets on both its crown and pavilion; there’s the Oval, the Cushion (pillow shaped, also called “antique cut”) the Princess (brilliant square-shaped stone,) the Emerald, the Asscher, the Pear, and the Marquise (oval with pointed ends.) It’s all about simple elegance. The setting can make the look too. For example, a Prong setting holds the diamond in place with 2, 4 or 6 “claws” while a Channel setting places the diamond between two thin bars, often with pavé diamonds.
